Lowa Bora GTX: By Jodi Balazs
Did you wait until the last minute to buy hiking shoes for your upcoming trip? Or, did someone invite you on an unexpected outing and you have to hurry to find a pair of shoes to wear? Go no further than the Lowa section at your local outdoor store. Lowa has always been my go to shoe for “right out of the box” comfort and the Lowa Bora GTX Qc is no exception. This is the ultimate weekend adventure shoe.
The Lowa Bora GTX Qc Hiking boots are lightweight, waterproof boots that are rugged enough to stand up to the abrasive lava slopes of Mauna Loa yet soft enough to keep your feet comfortable all 33 miles of the Chilkoot Trail. The split-grain leather and nylon mesh uppers are flexible so that you can navigate any trail. They are also durable enough to give ample ankle support for rocky terrain. The upper parts of these boots are made with a PU Monowrap® Frame that give excellent lateral stability.
I don’t know about you, but if a boot doesn’t have a Gortex lining, I won’t buy it. There are just too many instances where I have found myself in an unexpected rain shower or traipsing through dewy weeds. One of the fastest ways to find yourself feeling miserable, is to have damp, wet feet. The Gortex lining on this boot keeps your feet dry while offering breathable protection from all the elements.
The foot bed of this shoe has comfortable perforations that improve breathability. There is ample cushion and support that would even allow for short, light trail running. You never know when you might have to flee from a Sasquatch. I wore these shoes hiking all over Mesa Verde National Park and the outer soles gave great traction on all sorts of terrain. We spent half the trip in a torrential downpour and these shoes griped even on the wettest surfaces. Another feature important to me is that the shoelaces stay nice and snug. These never once failed me!!!

With all the garbage coming out of 3 rd world countries so that companies can improve their cost to profit ratio, it’s good to know that every Lowa boot is handcrafted in Europe. For thousands of years, Europeans have been putting out the highest quality items and Lowa is no exception. I haven’t met a Lowa shoe I haven’t liked. These shoes are made for fast and light hiking performance. These shoes were my best friends as I explored ancient ruins in Southern Colorado, dodged lava flows in Hawaii and helped my Uncle round up a lost calf in a muddy field in Iowa. Even if your muscles are screaming at you, your feet will still be smiling.
